Swiss chairmanship of Eureka

Bern, 01.07.2025 — From today, Switzerland will be taking over the chairmanship of the intergovernmental Eureka initiative for one year. With its 45 member countries, Eureka is the world’s largest network for innovation. Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency, will chair the Eureka network on behalf of the Swiss Federal Council. The aim of this presidency will be to strengthen international cooperation in research and development within the Eureka network and to further consolidate Switzerland’s position as an innovation partner.

Strengthening cooperation in innovation

Switzerland will be taking over the chairmanship from Germany and Canada. It is committed to upholding and building upon the tradition of multilateral cooperation and strategic dialogue in matters of innovation. Switzerland will contribute its experience in funding collaborative innovation to the Eureka network with a view to achieving enhanced added value and impact for all members and stakeholders.

Shaping the future together

Under the Swiss chairmanship, Eureka will focus on the following key areas: The solid basis for international cooperation within the framework of Eureka is to be consolidated, the funding processes are to be simplified, and the organisational efficiency of the network is to be improved. Another aim is to achieve greater international reach. Finally, access to funding for companies, research institutions and other innovative organisations is to be accelerated and simplified, while maximising the impact.

Added value of international cooperation

Switzerland will be taking over as Chair of Eureka for the third time, after having chaired the network in 1994/1995 and 2014/2015. This year, the network is also celebrating its 40th anniversary. For Swiss SMEs, start-ups and research institutions, participation in cross-border cooperation projects within the Eureka network offers the opportunity to develop innovative and sustainable solutions in response to significant challenges. At the Global Innovation Summit on 6 May 2026 in Basel, Swiss companies will also have the opportunity to meet international delegations and to kick off collaborations.
