Promoting innovation in practice
How do small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) perceive Innosuisse's innovation projects? And what makes it easier or more difficult for them to submit an application for funding? These questions are at the heart of a new qualitative study based on 46 interviews with SMEs from various sectors, including companies whose applications were accepted or rejected, as well as SMEs that have never applied.

The study shows that Innosuisse is still unknown to many SMEs, but that when it is known, it is perceived as a professional and reliable promotion agency. Innovation projects are seen as a valuable contribution to the implementation of ambitious innovation projects, particularly because they reduce risks and enable research activities to be carried out.
At the same time, the SMEs surveyed mention various obstacles, such as the heavy workload involved in submitting applications, limited time and financial resources, and low awareness of promotion instruments and advisory services. On this basis, the study makes concrete recommendations, including better communication tailored to target groups, strengthening easily accessible advisory services, and improving the visibility of supported projects.
